Our values

Traditional and authentic production

Larco Foods B.V. aims to preserve the flavour and quality of old-fashioned home cooking by using a combination of modern techniques and traditional methods.

The production process always starts from cooking the meat component (chickens, beef, game, etc.). This special cooking process produces not only the cooked meat fraction, but also its own broth and fat, which are complemented by other ingredients and turned into end products. Both the meat and the other ingredients are selected with utmost care in order to be able to ensure and guarantee the highest quality.

All our products are autoclaved (sterilised) to create a safe end product with a long shelf life. Every product undergoes its own specific, computer-controlled sterilization programme to minimise any loss in flavour and to achieve optimum safety.

After sterilising the products, they are encoded, labelled (mainly Private Label), packed and prepared for transportation and delivery.

Quality

Our products are manufactured in a controlled environment and the major part of the production process has been computerised. Our processes are continuously monitored by our own QA Department, in accordance with Total Quality Management. Furthermore external, independent auditors also assess and certify the entire process.

IFS

This strategy has enabled us to guarantee an integral quality assurance system which has resulted in our becoming IFS (International Food Standard) approved.

CSR

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a very important element of Larco Foods policy. We are committed to sustainable operations and doing business with respect for all stakeholders and we have made considerable efforts in this respect in recent years. Essential themes here are sustainability, quality, working together and respect for people, animal welfare and the environment. Larco is therefore Smeta 6.1 Pilar 4 certified and hence Sedex registered. Furtheremore all our suppliers have agreed to comply with the ETI-basic codes (www.ethicaltrade.org/resources/eti-base-code).

Larco focuses its overall strategy on this in order to achieve a socially responsible approach to, and positive perception by the general public of, the production of our 'home-cooked' products. Product safety and health are the main pillars under our products and we will continually review and improve this. In addition, Larco prioritises and will continue to improve its employees' safety and health.

All possible measures have been taken in order to carry out our activities such as to minimize the burden on the environment. Larco recognises its responsibility as regards the living environment and nature and strives for solutions that contribute to improving circumstances.

Organic certification mark

Skal Biocontrole, the only organic inspection body in the Netherlands and assigned by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, has also awarded us the quality mark for the production of organic products. Skal Biocontrole focuses on the demonstrable reliability of organic products in the Netherlands.

'Organic' is a legally protected term. A product may only be called organic if its production process complies with legal regulations. The European government determines the rules, which the over 3,600 certified Dutch organic entrepreneurs comply with, and Skal monitors that compliance. In this way, consumers can be sure that an organic product really is organic.

Free-range chickens

Larco uses breeding chickens (boilers) for its chicken soup and other products that feature chicken meat. These animals are farmed primarily to continue their species and to produce hatching eggs. For reasons of product safety, these animals do not roam free outside, but they range free inside a chicken house, i.e. 'free-range chickens kept indoors'. These animals live in this sheltered environment until they are 60 to 100 weeks old, after which they are offered for processing. As you will have gathered, the dams we work with are definitely no broilers that are made to grow extra fast so that they will have reached their intended weight when they are only 30 to 40 days old. Our 'free-range chickens kept indoors', combined with our traditional cooking process, are an indispensable element of our authentic, 'home-cooked' end products.
